The Brief

What the space asked for

A Chengdu residence wanting understated, graceful luxury — composed and never ornate, in the Italian spirit of bella figura: beauty through proportion, balance and ease.

The Approach

The thinking, made material

A light, neutral palette of warm whites, ivory, soft beige, greige and pale stone, accented with champagne gold and brushed brass. Furniture is sculptural yet lightweight — clean Italian-modern silhouettes without visual heaviness. Materials are used in subtle expression: light marble and travertine, polished plaster and microcement, soft-finished natural wood. Daylight is maximised with sheer drapery and open layouts.

The Outcome

What the space became

Airy, timeless and composed — minimal detailing, maximum precision. Elegance that feels effortless because every decision was deliberate.

Design Notes

The brief, in full.

Design direction — effortless elegance

Luxury kept understated and natural, never dramatic or ornate; spaces feel composed and graceful, reflecting the Italian philosophy of bella figura — beauty through proportion, balance and ease.

Light, neutral palette

Warm whites, ivory, soft beige, greige, pale stone and sand tones, occasionally accented with muted champagne-gold and brushed-brass metallics or soft earth hues, for an airy and timeless atmosphere.

Sculptural simplicity

Furniture with clean lines and gentle curves drawn from Italian modernism — sculptural yet lightweight silhouettes without visual heaviness.

Refined materiality

High-end Italian materials in subtle expression: light-toned marble and travertine, polished plaster and microcement, natural wood with soft finishes.

Abundant natural light

Layouts maximise daylight with sheer drapery, reflective surfaces and openness, so light becomes a defining element — softening materials and highlighting craftsmanship. Minimal detailing, maximum precision.
